Cancer New Moon – June 23, 2017

Cancer New Moon

So far, a series of full and new moons have been happening alongside grand fire trines, specifically, an ongoing trine between:

  • Saturn in Sagittarius at 23 degrees
  • North Node in Leo at 27 degrees
  • Uranus in Aries at 27 degrees

I don’t see a lot of astrologers — actually, I haven’t read any astrologers taking note of this trine, probably because I don’t see a lot of astrologers talking about the node in relationship to the whole. However, I focus on the big picture. I like to think in terms of systems, and grand sweeps of time, as opposed to a short term focus. This means the north node has great importance when I look at charts, because they indicate spaces in our lives that we must explore, often with great difficulty. The north node is where we head to forge our karmic future and achieve our soul’s purpose. Thus, the north node figuring into this series of grand fire trines under the new and full moons is of utmost importance, because our “fate” is arriving with a quickness and velocity — speed is the marking of a trine, after all.

So what can we expect with the Cancer New Moon married with a Grand Fire Trine?

Expect the unexpected, as Uranus and the North Node ratchet up fated events regarding matters of home and emotional life that Cancer relates to. Other excellent astrologers like Robert Wilkinson over at the Aquarius Papers takes note that there’s a relationship to events from previous April-May; already I’m seeing events unfolding like a series of falling dominoes — several people going through unexpected divorce proceedings, and another was recently ousted from an abusive home. Many of these culminating events were from small seeds planted early in the year, during or on the heels of the previous Venus Rx. So — expect disruptions in the home environment, emotional demolition and rebuilding, and changes of address. Old friendships might end suddenly, and new ones begin. Saturn still in Rx may well rebuilding something that was not structurally sound when he first initiated steps before the Rx.

This brings us to an interesting conjunction of Mercury at 5 degrees of Cancer, alongside the sun and the moon at 2 degrees. Talks and conversations will be emotional and intense and revolve many of the issues surrounding these disrupting events. Our heart (the moon) and our head (the sun) are consumed with our current emotional and home-life needs (Cancer) and will seek expression.

This emotional aspect will also hit a brick wall — Venus at 18 degrees of Taurus, a very cozy place for the planet of love and wealth, will form a semi-square to this Mercury at 5 degrees of Cancer, along with the sun and moon close by. This could indicate a stalled romance, funds held up (maybe that initial lease deposit isn’t being released), or other circumstances of difficulty and frustration. Semi-squares ask us to endure our current tests, for there is little we can do to rush them along. Take a deep breath and ride it out.

Mars is also hanging out in Cancer, at 12 degrees, his fall, where he squares Jupiter in Libra, at 13 degrees. When emotions run high, we can be aggressive or defensive. Your friends might bear the brunt of this, as all these emotions need outlet — just don’t abuse the privilege and drive others away by not considering their feelings in the matter and trampling all over them in the process.

Neptune at 14 degrees Pisces also trines Mars in 12 degrees of Cancer. The men in one’s home life may be prone to escaping current problems, rather than rising up to the challenges expected of them. Women may be face-palming under this trine and asking why chivalry is dead, since Mars here is not well positioned and cannot find good expression, even under a trine. Neptune diverts him into drinking, gambling, addiction — anything but facing up to the real problems at hand. Mars may even be tempted to play the martyr and exaggerate small problems into big ones. A paper cut is played off as a serious emergency worthy of everyone’s sympathy.

The ongoing inconjunct is still in effect between Neptune at 14 degrees of Pisces and Jupiter at 13 degrees of Libra. I’m not a fan of this particular aspect, as Jupiter expands relationships and Libra sets the standard for balance in those relationships, while Neptune is plodding his foggy way through the natural twelfth house of solitude, of behind the scenes issues, of sickness, institutions and imprisonment. How these two houses and planets clash and seek to find calibration in our personal circumstances is largely what makes inconjuncts so uncomfortable — the solutions are usually not easily provided and thus, not to be found in the usual way. Sometimes, compartmentalization is at work in order to keep our sanity and wall off the parts of ourselves that cannot cope with what life requires of us.

There’s a new blog up by the esteemed Arch Druid John Michael Greer called Ecosophia, for anyone with an interest in druidry, ecology, peak oil, and other issues that usually preoccupy anyone involved in nature. He writes excellent essays on a regular basis covering these topics and more.

Grand Fire Trine, Sagittarius Full Moon 6-9-2017

Sagittarius Full Moon

This full moon is shaping up to have the heady swiftness of the last new moon, another Grand Fire Trine forming with the Moon in Sagittarius and the Sun in Gemini. This fire trine forms between Saturn in Sagittarius at 24 degrees, Uranus in Aries at 27 degrees, and the North Node in Leo at 27 degrees.

Trines increase the velocity of energy, so we can expect relevant events affected by these planets and hours to increase in speed and impact. In the case of the node, the head of the dragon where our karmic future lies in the sign of creative expression and fun, now might be a nice time to engage ourselves in the drama of the moment. All the world is a stage — so act accordingly to make the most of it! With the moon sharing space with Saturn, the lord of restraint and constraints, it might bring with it a strange feeling of opposites — the emotional mood of the moon will pull Saturn’s frown upright, as happy-go-lucky Sagittarius wants more fun and the energy of the trine will be hard to suppress with Uranus in Aries continuing to throw surprises out of left field, emphasizing the needs of the self. With the sun in Gemini and moon in Sagittarius polarity, travel may feature, communications will be dynamic and lead to surprises and shifts in circumstances. Hopefully, you behaved yourself while Mars was in Gemini and your mouth didn’t get you into trouble, or else you’ll be dealing with the fallout from that New Moon Grand Fire Trine last month.

The trine is the best part of the moon. What we have left are the clashing energies of inconjuncts, squares, and semi-squares, most notably, the influence of Jupiter in Libra at 13 degrees inconjunct Neptune at 14 degrees Pisces. Our expanding friends, connections, relationships are unable to mediate with Neptune’s foggy and inconsistent nature in Pisces. People will be attempting to keep the difficult parts of their lives separate, trying to maintain their relationships while giving themselves to addiction, escapism, or maybe someone is lying to themselves about the kind of relationships they’re willing to maintain or tolerate. In either case, one can feel the tension of the inconjunct any time the needs of balance in relationship clash with the wishy-washiness of Neptune who might not be too into facing up to the hard decisions. Running and hiding might be a tempting solution, but something here too, is preventing relief.

Pluto at 18 degrees of Capricorn is also inconjunct the Gemini Sun, 18 degrees. Power and authority might be forming a schism to the Gemini desire for novelty and hunger to communicate. Capricorn is Saturn’s home field, and will wait out the impatient younger sign of the Twins. Impulses may have to be stymied in favor of the prevailing status quo.

We come up against hard squares under this full moon with Neptune in Pisces at 14 degrees, square the Sagittarius moon and the Gemini sun. Black Lilith at 12 degrees Sagittarius is also square Neptune in Pisces. With all these aspects forming to Neptune in Pisces, it suggests that hard decisions are coming for those who have been lying to themselves about a difficult situation, perhaps an overindulgence has taken over a person’s life and become a full blown addiction, or maybe a belief that drove actions and decisions in the past is being dissolved — leaving behind feelings of betrayal and anger. The time has come to take a new course and change direction, and it’s a good time to gather information under this Gemini Sun and to better get our bearings.

Semi-squares join the fray. Notably, Venus at 3 degrees of Taurus semi-square Neptune in Pisces. Venus is very happy in the sign she rules, Taurus, so this semi-square will be complicated by issues of wealth, of material needs and security, perhaps more so than anything romantic. Perhaps a promise of increase in wealth, a spoken for reward, something is held up, whether it’s by deliberate deception, or more likely, the neglect of someone else’s poor decisions. Difficulties with no easy solutions may make themselves known, creating a knot of problems with the flow of money or resources, or a project just won’t finish completion and the wheels keep spinning, spinning. Taurus’s endurance is the best thing to have during a difficult time. Be patient, and see your way to the other side of the semi-square.

Gemini New Moon, 5-25-2017

New Moon 5-25-2017

A lovely grand fire trine is forming during the sun and moon’s passage through Gemini, and should make for swift and satisfying communications. The North Node in Leo, Uranus in Aries, and Saturn in Sagittarius are all in accordance. We flow smoothly from place to place, transmitting ideas and being readily understood, our messages are clear and understandable. Contracts are exchanged, agreements struck, and moving from place to place and enjoying the novel and the new comes easy and carefree. All these things under the auspices of Gemini and Mercury should find favor.

That’s not to say this moon does not have its share of complications — as with everything, we have some harder aspects to deal with, but I know with my business and financial interests firmly rooted in audio and creative writing, I’ll be sure to initiate projects to give them that extra oomph! Especially with Mercury in Taurus, Taurus will make your projects long lasting and unlike Geminis often flighty tendency to move on to the new interesting flavor of the moment, Taurus has the steam and endurance to see things through to the end.  This is a boon to work that requires both an initiatory spirit and a need for refining and crafting.

Now that we’ve highlighted the good, let’s look at the not so good.

Pushy Venus at 19 degrees of Aries may indicate a fast and furious romance that goes against the grain of more conservative and cautious Capricorn, where Pluto at 19 degrees squares. Capricorn is going to want to iron out the details and Pluto isn’t going to give up control or stop digging for the underlying meaning of things. Add in Black Moon Lillith in Sagittarius at 11 degrees, who is squared by Neptune at 14 degrees of Pisces, and it suggests that romances initiated under this moon are going to be plagued by both the benefits and the downsides of magnetic sexuality — sometimes, we rush in to satisfy pleasure without considering the consequences. This act-now think-later attitude will certainly yield an affair to remember given the Venus in Aries heat, and the Lillith in Sagittarius magnetism, where Saturn is struggling to keep a lid on the happy-go-lucky archer. Those squares to Pluto and Neptune, though, suggest all the sticky complications of a love affair gone wrong, an extra marital affair, infidelity, power struggles, and all the lying such situations tend to generate. Of course, this might also figure in more than only love, but also money.

If these squares with their clashing energy weren’t potent enough, we have further semi-squares, creating aftershocks and stall points that are less easily resolved.

In particular, Venus in Aries semi-square the Gemini sun and moon, and Mercury in Taurus semi-square Mars in Gemini, also suggest, in spite of the burning power of this Grand Fire Trine, we may encounter that what course of action we decide upon under this new moon now creates a domino effect of unforeseen consequences; projects which begin with great promise might not complete to schedule, but bear this in mind — this is not necessarily a negative! Consider that a writer, initiating a creative project, might end up going through steep and rigorous edits, all of which give the sensation of spinning wheels in a rut, but which, over the course of months, bears a great deal of fruit in the form of awards or recognition, or increased pay. Use this Grand Fire Trine well!

I advise anyone to take on the qualities of Mercury and be ready to think on your feet to counter the difficult aspects of the semi-squares.

Less palatable is the opposition forming between Mars in Gemini and Saturn in Sagittarius. We might have to face up to responsibilities for our quick words or decisions, or deal with clashes with authority figures and arguments that spring up around them. This may be the case where you know you’re right, but someone who holds power refuses to acknowledge they are in the wrong, and it costs you. This is the time for swallowing your pride and picking your battles, and you may have to choose diplomacy over valor.

Lastly, a Taurus Mercury inconjunct Jupiter in Libra might have us sticking to our guns when we should be compromising with our friends or in our relationships, and as a result, we don’t quite see eye to eye. Taurean inflexibility will not smooth things over in your personal life, as fluid Mercury is better when he exerts his mercurial spirit. Be willing to bend to influence, for if you cannot bend, the inconjunct might force you to break! Be generous with your spirit and your words to and these should blend nicely with the Grand Fire Trine and help you sidestep the less desireable effects of the inconjunct.

Full Moon Eclipse In Leo on 2/10/2017, Impressions

Buckle up for this eclipse. I’m excited — are you?

We have a Leo-Aquarius polarity between the sun and the moon — the king and the fool standing on opposite sides of the court, the regal and revolutionary powers. Yet, with the moon in Leo, by rulership, this moon is happy to work with the sun. Politics are on everyone’s mind, so this amplifies the mood already at hand.

What’s interesting is that the Moon is fast approaching Regulus and there’s a good post that touches on what those fixed stars in that constellation of Leo means here. What is also prominent is that Regulus figures in Trump’s natal chart, so this eclipse might be ushering in truly unexpected changes in Trump’s character — or priming him for a fall. Either way, we little people outside the realm of influence in the political world of presidents and kings are dealing with our revolutionary troubles at home, at work, and in community. Lines are being drawn and people are being pushed in directions that heretofore were not prime issues in life. No one is allowed neutrality, anymore, and so this friction will likely bubble up during this eclipse.

In addition to the fixed star Regulus, we have a rather interesting conjunction of Jupiter at 23 degrees in Libra, sitting right on top of fixed star Spica. Jupiter, while often considered “benevolent” is really neither good nor bad, but a planet of expansion, which means it makes both the good and the bad bigger than they were before. Amplification does not always work in our favor, after all. However, rejoice, because Spica is a fixed star of wealth and good fortune joining forces with Jupiter!

Another aspect that leaps out from the chart is the arrangement of parallel and contra-parallel planets. The moon, Uranus, Sun, and Jupiter share in this arranged from their signs of Leo, Aries, Aquarius, and Libra. That’s quite a foursome of signs, criss-crossing their energies with regards to self-interests and community interests, between relationships and individuals.

Uranus in opposition to Jupiter in Libra is, as I’ve mentioned and will continue to, touching off those who were born with Pluto in Libra in the late ’70s, early ’80s. For them, these years will be defining points in their lives. Changes will be felt by all, but for this generation in the prime of life, what they do now will have severe consequences in the future, and those are, of course, political issues as well as personal ones. For those born outside of that time frame, things are no less heated, but the ramifications will be different. Everyone is being pushed into change by Uranus in Aries, but for the younger generation, there is still time yet to change course, refine purpose, and go beyond fixed fate. For the Pluto in Librans, age often closes windows of opportunity in our lives because we can’t suffer changes and surprises with the same fluidity as we could when we are young — and that’s hardly an astrological issue, but rather, one that is the evolving pattern of life. The clock is ticking. During this eclipse, choices will be determining the personal and collective future in a big way, and I’d be curious to know what executive orders, what bills, and what laws might be changed under its influence. Finance in our personal lives may also play a part, for while Spica is a fortunate star, the influence of Jupiter crossing over Pluto’s generational tracks may be revealing debts that need to be repaid, problems in spending, possessions being divided, or windfalls.

We also have a grand fire trine. I was born under a similar fire trine, so to say I’m supercharged and excited by this pattern is an understatement. Our trine comprises of Uranus in Aries, the Moon in Leo, and Saturn in Sagittarius. A strange arrangement of energies anchored in the moon and crossed over by the sun, Saturn in its detriment in Sagittarius plods away slowly though the 25th degree. His slow and steady gait will eventually over take electric Uranus in the sign of the Ram, while the moon in her swiftness dances around them all, but for now at their triangular points in fire signs should give us a sense of urgency in our individual tasks and matters, galvanizing us to meet challenges with extra vigor, even if the road is bumpy and our challenges unanticipated.
