New Moon in Aries 3/27/2017, Impressions

lunation 3-27

On March 27 we have a series of interesting aspects under this New Moon at 7 degrees of Aries. Aries, the first sign, the me-first sign, ego-centered and self-affirming, pushy and bold.

What stands out in this lunation is the presence of the North Node at 1 degree of Virgo, preparing to cross into Leo. At the apex of the sky here in the North East, the Dragon’s Head is calling us to leadership — will you answer? Will you square up to accountability, to take the crown — and the responsibility that comes with it? If you think events revolving around White House politics have been interesting, hold onto your seat, for the Node is transiting fixed star Regulus, as this “kingmaker” star is prominent in Trump’s chart. However, I think the Node’s placement has a message for all of us — to lead, and to lead well, to stop looking for others to resolve the challenges put before us and come to terms with all that it entails — that life often asks us to lead in the face of unfair circumstances and waiting for someone else to do it is not always an option. Meet your challenges, and what better aspect than the moon in Aries to support you? When our leaders fail us, we are called to be leaders in our own lives.

However, this call goes unheard in the general public, as evidenced by the opposition to Neptune in Pisces. We long to escape from the difficulties of life, and for some, this escape is necessary, and for some, it is merely prolonging our suffering and agony.

In Aries we have a very dark and deep Venus in retrograde telling her story of love’s fortunes — her transformation into the morning star begins as she disappears from the sky on March 18 and reappears as the morning star on March 31 at 1 degree Aries. In absence, does she grieve for profound unrequited love, or is she gearing up for a bold and ruthless liasion as evidenced by the supportive trine with Black Moon Lilith in Sagittarius? Seducers are afoot this period, some people will be having the kind of romance soap operas are made of, complete with dramatic conclusions.

Mars and Venus are in mutual reception, both being in the signs ruled by the other, Taurus and Aries respectively. Take note, Venus is challenged by old man Saturn, squaring her from Sagittarius. Expressions of love and affection are already suffering under the retrograde, and Saturn will constrain Venus’s warmth. Love must be clever, kind, and patient to bear with the challenges of this period.

Jupiter in Libra is also a strong feature, since Libra’s natural ruler is Venus. Jupiter is still in ongoing opposition to Uranus in Aries, and Mercury is also passing Uranus in Aries. Expect intensifying communications, active sociability among burgeoning friendships, and as always, use words with common sense and consideration lest Jupiter’s expansiveness and Uranus’s delight in shocking others causes you to open mouth and insert foot.

At this time, Pluto in Capricorn at 19 degrees is forming squares to Uranus, Mercury in Aries and Jupiter in Libra. Pluto’s agreeable alliance with Saturn in Sagittarius will make Pluto’s desire for control and power well-focused; with Venus in retrograde also afflicting relationships, take stock of your friends and make sure the people you surround yourself with are the type of people you want in your life — not those seeking to take from you or leverage your time, effort, love, or wealth for their own needs.

Conversely, if your friends have been fractious lately, you may find this an excellent opportunity to learnĀ  skills of politics and diplomacy that are often the keystone to how we unlock success and get along in civilized society — usually a gift that develops later in life. Meet challenges in your friendships to develop it now. Saturn’s supportive trine to the Node will lend strength, and the adventurous and bold moon in Aries give steam to meeting challenges.

Full Moon in Virgo, 3-12-2017, Impressions

Virgo Full Moon 3-12

I’m trying out this awesome new software from OpenAstro.org for Linux. (I’m still getting used to it!)

On this Virgo full moon, the prominent aspect is Mercury in Pisces at 27 degrees moving into exact square to Saturn in Sagitarrius at 27 degrees.

Their are several oppositions and squares at play during this full moon in Virgo the natural ruler of the sixth house, the sign of work, day to day concerns, daily tasks, health, organization, pets, and exercise. Let’s highlight those of interest one by one:

The North Node (Rahu/Dragon’s Head) at 2 degrees of Virgo is also conjunct fixed star Regulus, off by 1 orb. Regulus conveyed great fortune to a native by raising them high above the state they were born into, but equally capable of bringing about a proportionate “fall”. Traditionally in Leo, due to the precession of the equinoxes, Regulus passed from Leo to Virgo in 2012. The North Node, taken to represent our karmic future and soul’s quest, always moves backward, and thus is preparing to align with that star as it moves through the beginning degrees of Virgo to pass into Leo.

With this shift we should keep in mind that there is often a release — whatever theme, task, challenge, mission, or debt the sign placed upon you comes to an end. What does this portend as the North Node comes conjunct the “Kingmaker” star? Look to the kings and queens in your life, or how you might be assuming a kingship yourself, or are you meant — or failing — to take leadership in the area that Virgo applies to in your nativity?

Saturn is our big mover and shaker in 27 degrees of Sagitarrius, and is at the center of three squares. He forms loose squares to the Virgo moon and the Pisces sun at about 5 degree orb, making it a softer aspect. However, the intense aspect here is Pisces Mercury forming an exact square to Saturn in Sagitarrius at the 27 degree mark.

Ironically, I’m already getting a taste of this myself. In gathering my birth certificate and other incidentals, I discovered my birth certificate did not include the names of my parents and would be useless to me in my efforts to apply for a passport (which Sagitarrius rules, being the natural 9th house which rules foreign travel.) The lady who I made an appointment with to look over this paperwork completely forgot we had an appointment, and was an hour late to meet me — reminiscent of Mercury in retrograde, though in this case, what we have is a very sleepy, Pisces Mercury who is dropping the ball under Neptune’s influence. This miscommunication has forced me to jump through bureaucratic hoops to sort these papers out. Saturn in Sagitarrius would be proud!

Expect miscommunications in similar vein to the themes of the Neptune/Saturn square we experienced recently, only on a smaller scale, this time with Mercury in watery Pisces, perhaps dreaming too much, lets his mouth run away with him or makes promises he can’t deliver when Saturn puts his hand up to silence the noise. You might be called to deliver on those promises or contracts after all.

Politically, this might make for some interesting occurrences as we have a president notorious for off-the-cuff remarks and a news media that has more to gain from “infotainment” than value-driven news reporting that characterized journalistic standards of the past. Mercury, the ruler of journalists and writers, will make his presence known during this square in those fields.

In addition to those squares with Saturn, we have several loose squares to Pluto, who is transiting Capricorn at 19 degrees. Capricorn, an earth sign along with Virgo. Prominent squares to Pluto are Jupiter in Libra at 21 degrees, and Uranus in Aries at 22 degrees.

Pluto is also trine the Virgo moon, but wherever Pluto is involved, expect to have your mettle tested, even under “favorable” aspects like trines. Since Pluto is in Capricorn, which is Saturn’s house, we must look to where Saturn occupies the chart, as this is where Pluto is driving his energy.

This Plutonic power, therefore, feeds into the Mercury/Saturn square — while many have found Pluto in Capricorn to be a difficult aspect, citing the 2008 financial crises as being a part of Pluto’s movement into Capricorn, I find that there is no better planetary influence than Saturn for harnessing the immense power of Pluto — Pluto takes to Saturn’s discipline, which we sorely need lest Pluto rage without control.

This Mercury in Pisces is also in loose opposition to the Virgo moon — Virgo wants to keep emotions tight and within well defined boundaries, but the urge for the Virgin to “confess” under Mercury’s dreamy influence might undermine attempts at efficiency where Virgo is concerned. Idle gossip at work could backfire! Naturally, where the natal house positions fall under these signs for the native, comes into play.

Mars in Taurus forms a loose trine between Saturn in Sagitarrius and the North Node in Virgo, and will be making himself known best by channelling his martial aspect into endurance and aggressively hunting down investments and things of value. This will be doubly important as Venus is currently in retrograde, at her detriment, but she rules the signs of Taurus and Libra, and so both these signs carry special weight on their own — Mars in Taurus to emphasize the active pursuit of beauty and value, and Jupiter in Libra, asking us to see to our relationships and maintain those friendships, for when all else fails, we will need people we trust around us.

Yet, with Venus in retrograde until April, this will present challenges in how we deal with our friendships, our relationships — romantic ventures will likely stutter and stall, for those of you expecting sparks, and with tax season coming up, I’ve already heard reports of people falling victim to identity theft and having their tax return end up in the hands of a thief. Here, there seems a perfect conjunction of nefarious pursuits indicating Venus’s interests and Mars in Taurus, alongside the Saturn/Mercury square and Pluto.

If you broke up with someone under the influence of the solar eclipse previously, they will likely boomerang during Venus in retrograde.

If all this seems like a confusing cosmic soup, take heart: a good way to deal with these tensions and pressures is to take a hint from the glorious Venus, that mistress of love. Move slowly. Take your time. Speak less, and when you do, do it with consideration and grace. The Taurus Mars will also want to move with the slow endurance of the bull, that ancient fertility symbol, seeking to smell the roses. Yet, a chance to reconnect with friends under this Jupiter in Libra period, is also conducive to a Venus in retrograde period. Shake out those old dresses you’ve forgotten about. Throw a tea party, gather the women in your life, and celebrate them — the Virgo full moon will add her female energy to the mix, and don’t take anything anyone says too seriously.

New Moon and Solar Eclipse in Pisces on 2-26-2017, Impressions

sun-vintageimage-graphics-fairy-orgJupiter is the defining element of the New Moon eclipse in Pisces. Chatter has already started up about the ugly T-square forming among the malefics, the conjunction of Mars and Uranus hitting off aspects to the big baddies, Saturn and Pluto. The god of war, action oriented Mars in his home field of Aries makes him trigger happy, looking to expend his martial energy and fulfil his purpose.

If you’re like me and Mars owns a good portion of your personal planets, you’ll feel Mars tension and for many, it will manifest in argument and schisms between people fighting to get their way and to satisfy their desires — often at the expense of others. If Mars is subtle for you, you might find yourself full of nervous tension, but most of all, with Pluto in the mix, the physical self frustrates if it cannot find a way to release this energy. Hit the gym, go a few rounds with someone you trust, but most of all, stay in controlled environments where even if something unexpected should occur, you are surrounded by support systems or preparations that will help you weather unfortunate surprises. So if you do go to the gym — make sure there’s a first aid kit with you and you’ve got your boxing gloves laced up right.

What makes Jupiter so key in this eclipse is dependent upon a series of aspects. Not only does Jupiter conjunct with fixed star Spica, but as in the last lunar eclipse, Jupiter is lurching backwards into retrograde. Given the stellium in foggy Pisces where Mercury, Sun, Moon, and Neptune are thrown together, now might be a time when you discover the friends and contacts that you’ve accrued under Jupiter’s expansive influence in Libra are not the people you thought they were — either you fooled yourself about their true nature, or they concealed who they really are. Now might not be the right time to address those issues, however, with Mercury unable to operate with any fundamental clarity in the Neptunian house, and with the harsh aspects occurring between Pluto, Mars/Uranus, and Saturn.

Case in point, I had a dear friend approach me with a problem she has ongoing with a close friend of her own. She discovered this friend of hers had been concealing information from her in and effort to present themselves in a better light, and now she is unsure whether she wants to continue a friendship with this person. The concern is that this person is hot-headed and may react inappropriately if she abandons the friendship, even though they are in the wrong. Sometimes, no matter how right we are, how good our intentions, we should take the time to weigh the possible consequences of our choices. As satisfying as it would be for her to simply cut off her friendship and be done with the confusion and difficulty this false friend presented, sometimes our best course of action is simply to offer neither resistance nor help, but let others choose their own paths without our interference. Taking time away from problem-people and simply withdrawing is a passive strategy that is also, often, a healing one — time reveals yet more things we did not know, and problems that we were upset about before, suddenly unravel themselves while we were busy doing something else. The problems dissipates, and leaves us lighter than when we started.

As an old saying goes — don’t invite trouble to your door, because trouble already knows where you live. This would be a good thing to keep in mind if you find yourself faced with conflicts that you would ordinarily dive into this eclipse period. Take a deep breath and consider dealing with problems in new ways. When faced with a tide, it is pointless to swim against it — consider swimming with it until it ebbs and you can find your feet again and take new direction, instead of exhausting yourself in the struggle.

Saturn and Pluto are in play. Here is where, though it is not immediately obvious that Jupiter is the major player of this chart, as much of the bluster online is being made over the malefics — which are certainly alarming in their own right — Jupiter makes his presence known through rulership and a chain of dispositors.

Pluto moving through Capricorn is giving momentum to Saturn by rulership, as earthy and conscientious Capricorn is owned by disciplinarian Saturn; and Saturn, of course, is in Jupiter’s house of lucky, expansive Sagittarius, meaning that Saturn, already spurred by Plutonian energy from Capricorn, is filtering this turbo-charged force all the way to Jupiter, by rulership. And Jupiter wants bigger, better, faster, more! Is it like a fountain, where several trickles from the top are running down to form a flood at the bottom, where Jupiter is collecting all this potential force from the other planets.

We can follow the breadcrumbs of this chain of dispositors further if we wish, when we realize that if Jupiter is in Libra, that sign of relationships and equality, than where oh where is the ruler of Libra, Venus?

Venus can be found in Aries — also in opposition to Jupiter in Libra!

The goddess of love, rich in gifts of seduction and flattery, may be telling us something about the nature of our relationships and the choices we might make between them while Jupiter is in Libra. Some friends might run away with your heart during this eclipse! But beware, for it is in the myth of Aphrodite — Venus — that she is given a girdle by the gods that lends her the ability to wield her tongue to appeal to vanity. Make sure whoever you might be involved with is not simply selling you sweet dreams and words, pandering to your ego, with no intention of giving anything of value in return. Glamour and charm can be persuasive, but empty when they have lost their power to enchant.

Jupiter is also square Pluto in Capricorn and Venus in Aries, where Venus is at her detriment, and where rammy Mars also happens to be. Since Aries is Mars’ natural home, the presences of Uranus and Venus alongside him are secondary to Mars, who holds primacy over those planets. With the male and female energies in tight configuration, this could make for sparks between lovers, but this sexual tension could also easily manifest as argument, the knock-down drag-out 3 am fight that ends up in a heated reunion. If you live in close proximity with those kinds of romantic entanglements like I have, you might want to invest in some ear plugs to save your sanity. (Or, you might be inspiring others to buy ear plugs.)

Further complicating factors is Saturn in Sagittarius square Pluto in Capricorn and Mars/Uranus in Aries square Pluto. Jupiter in Libra will be expanding these malefics and is pulling at the stellium in Pisces — Chiron, Neptune, Mercury, Sun and Moon — as well as Venus, Mars, and Uranus seated in Aries.

Jupiter forms an anchor point in this configuration. And while the term anchor sounds like a stabilizing force, perhaps this is inaccurate — better to say that in this case, Jupiter’s amplifying power is perhaps best described as a slingshot, in which Mars conjunct Uranus and the stellium in Pisces is going to add expansive force to these planets and signs respective properties. Pisces in his foggy element will have the capacity to lead astray with greater enthusiasm or, at best, inspiring genius and creatives propelled by martial energy thanks to the god of war. Mars with Uranus will lend an intense force in their own arenas, Pluto’s square supercharging all that’s already in play in this clash of malefics.

Good luck everyone, stay safe, stay aware, and keep your thinking clear so you can perceive obstacles and work around them safely. I expect a potential uptick in car accidents (Mercury and Neptune) so be careful when out drinking and driving and navigating with your fellow citizens on the road.

Full Moon Eclipse In Leo on 2/10/2017, Impressions

Buckle up for this eclipse. I’m excited — are you?

We have a Leo-Aquarius polarity between the sun and the moon — the king and the fool standing on opposite sides of the court, the regal and revolutionary powers. Yet, with the moon in Leo, by rulership, this moon is happy to work with the sun. Politics are on everyone’s mind, so this amplifies the mood already at hand.

What’s interesting is that the Moon is fast approaching Regulus and there’s a good post that touches on what those fixed stars in that constellation of Leo means here. What is also prominent is that Regulus figures in Trump’s natal chart, so this eclipse might be ushering in truly unexpected changes in Trump’s character — or priming him for a fall. Either way, we little people outside the realm of influence in the political world of presidents and kings are dealing with our revolutionary troubles at home, at work, and in community. Lines are being drawn and people are being pushed in directions that heretofore were not prime issues in life. No one is allowed neutrality, anymore, and so this friction will likely bubble up during this eclipse.

In addition to the fixed star Regulus, we have a rather interesting conjunction of Jupiter at 23 degrees in Libra, sitting right on top of fixed star Spica. Jupiter, while often considered “benevolent” is really neither good nor bad, but a planet of expansion, which means it makes both the good and the bad bigger than they were before. Amplification does not always work in our favor, after all. However, rejoice, because Spica is a fixed star of wealth and good fortune joining forces with Jupiter!

Another aspect that leaps out from the chart is the arrangement of parallel and contra-parallel planets. The moon, Uranus, Sun, and Jupiter share in this arranged from their signs of Leo, Aries, Aquarius, and Libra. That’s quite a foursome of signs, criss-crossing their energies with regards to self-interests and community interests, between relationships and individuals.

Uranus in opposition to Jupiter in Libra is, as I’ve mentioned and will continue to, touching off those who were born with Pluto in Libra in the late ’70s, early ’80s. For them, these years will be defining points in their lives. Changes will be felt by all, but for this generation in the prime of life, what they do now will have severe consequences in the future, and those are, of course, political issues as well as personal ones. For those born outside of that time frame, things are no less heated, but the ramifications will be different. Everyone is being pushed into change by Uranus in Aries, but for the younger generation, there is still time yet to change course, refine purpose, and go beyond fixed fate. For the Pluto in Librans, age often closes windows of opportunity in our lives because we can’t suffer changes and surprises with the same fluidity as we could when we are young — and that’s hardly an astrological issue, but rather, one that is the evolving pattern of life. The clock is ticking. During this eclipse, choices will be determining the personal and collective future in a big way, and I’d be curious to know what executive orders, what bills, and what laws might be changed under its influence. Finance in our personal lives may also play a part, for while Spica is a fortunate star, the influence of Jupiter crossing over Pluto’s generational tracks may be revealing debts that need to be repaid, problems in spending, possessions being divided, or windfalls.

We also have a grand fire trine. I was born under a similar fire trine, so to say I’m supercharged and excited by this pattern is an understatement. Our trine comprises of Uranus in Aries, the Moon in Leo, and Saturn in Sagittarius. A strange arrangement of energies anchored in the moon and crossed over by the sun, Saturn in its detriment in Sagittarius plods away slowly though the 25th degree. His slow and steady gait will eventually over take electric Uranus in the sign of the Ram, while the moon in her swiftness dances around them all, but for now at their triangular points in fire signs should give us a sense of urgency in our individual tasks and matters, galvanizing us to meet challenges with extra vigor, even if the road is bumpy and our challenges unanticipated.

Aquarius New Moon, 1-27-2017 – Impressions

new-moon-2-27-2017

Impressions of the Aquarius New Moon, 1-27-2017

Jupiter in Libra expands our relationships in both breadth and depth. Those born with Pluto in Libra will feel the aggravating effect of expansive Jupiter as he touches on Pluto’s decades old shadow set during the late ’70’s and early ’80’s, all grown up now in this divisive era where equality (Libra) and power (Pluto) in relationships between people and between governments is more meaningful than ever. Both of these planets will be “owned” by Venus, since Libra is Venus’s home by rulership, and Venus in Pisces stands but a short 5 degrees from Mars. Mars cuts a path to Uranus in Aries, laying down his jacket in the mud so Venus can walk across it unsoiled. He waxes strong in his approach to Aries, where is energy is turbo charged.

Uranus in Aries forms an opposition to Jupiter in Libra, also agitating the Pluto in Libra generation, pushing and pulling them between their community ties (Libra) and the needs of the individual (Aries).

Moon and Sun conjunct in Aquarius, Uranus’s home sign, also adds to this revolutionary atmosphere — hearts and minds are bent on setting us free from limitations, our own ego and emotions. However, Pluto and Mercury conjunct in Capricorn, where Saturn constrains Pluto and Mercury, set off a square between Uranus and Jupiter. What is spoken may hide secrets and information not fully revealed in the halls of power. People will be silenced or punished for what is said, or what is said may set off greater consequences cascading from here on in. (Recent accounts formed on Twitter by government agencies after the Trump ban come to mind as a perfect example of this square.)

A further square with Saturn to Venus and Mars oversees this, demanding rules but Saturn, you see, is undermined in Sagittarius since this is Jupiter’s home sign. Thus, Saturn is forced to overcome his own restraint and wants eagerly to join the party. He cannot help but be tempted by Jupiter’s lovely Libran/Venus born energy as he forms a sextile, diluting the square he forms to Venus and Mars, which is already interrupted by the Sun and Moon conjunct in between, while in rebellious Aquarius. Good luck, Saturn, on keeping your stern demeanor and your control! But then, when Saturn does choose to cut loose, he can throw a helluva party (Saturnalia.) Authority figures may well be asking themselves this very question — is it time to hold fast to the law, or time to throw off the restraints and build anew? You may find the rebellious new moon wants you to build anew.

Cancer Full Moon of 1-12-2017, Impressions

screenshot-from-2017-01-10-101149

I sat down with a piece of paper to jot down my impressions of the full moon chart, applicable to the American north-east region in particular.

  • Uranus 20 degrees/Eris 22 degrees in Aries
  • Pluto 17 degrees /Sun 22 degrees in Capricorn
  • Moon, exalted, at 22 degrees
  • Jupiter in Libra, 22 degrees

Each planet stationed in their native Cardinal signs of 1st, 10th, 4th and 7th houses.

Yikes!

Great stress and tension affects us on a personal, private, and public level. Let us touch on the prominent aspects.

People long for the comforts of home as stoked by the full moon in Cancer, but the economic storm being ridden hard by Pluto in Capricorn has destroyed this ideal and now wherever we find ourselves is our home — no matter how unlikely, surprising, or unbearable it may be. We may be in a state of flux, happy with our situations, or trapped here until the moon cycle completes.

Jupiter is expanding Plutonic aspects for those born during the Pluto in Libra generation of the late ’70s, early ’80s. A desire for equality, fairness, demands for justice will be voiced and desires to control social situations and the behavior of others will be pronounced. The best expression of this expanding power of Jupiter in Libra, touching on Pluto’s old tracks, will be seduction and charm — think marketing, advertising, or romantic conquest in the name of love — at its worst, it will be confidence games exacerbated by a semi-square with Neptune in Pisces, giving steam to illusion. Think too, of others who will “cry wolf” with and eye toward advancing ulterior motives.

Uranus and Eris within 2 degrees in Aries also opposes Jupiter in Libra — a schism of the individual needs versus the community is represented here, where we will do anything to get our way or preserve what fills our ego needs, inviting the Goddess of Discord to work hand in hand with the planet of rebellion. I am reminded of a saying, “Don’t go looking for trouble — trouble knows where to find you.” Communities and relationships can be easily undermined by others looking to leverage their good will or their assets for personal means, to someone else’s detriment. It will do no good to trust without also verifying and vetting whatever comes your way.

This is an intense cross with little relief. Take a hint from the crab and stay inside one’s shell for awhile. Here, both Neptune and Saturn may provide respective relief in the downtime if we choose to isolate ourselves until the storm passes by — finding solace in a temporary addiction or escape — for does not the sleeping medicine of a doctor give benefit to the patient’s pain? — taken in small doses — and give us a chance to overlook the faults of others with suitable forgiveness, or spend this alone time building or reinforcing our foundations with Saturn.

Mercury prepares to carry this message from Saturn to Pluto, where if you do not build wisely, Pluto may be compelled to blow your house down.

Super Moon in Taurus: Exalted

Everyone’s abuzz about the Super Moon in Taurus at 22 degrees, with the sun in Scorpio, Taurus’s opposite sign.

Expect the moon to bring out the passionate side of this fixed sign of Taurus, especially in the aftermath of the recent election — people will be examining what they value in life, and they will be doing so beyond the Taurean scope of money-counting and possessiveness — instead, it will be inner and spiritual wealth that will come under scrutiny. Already, I’ve been listening to people speak on how they relate to this country, it’s politics, their relationship to the government, and to their neighbors, and what it means to be an American — all themes on those inner subjects whose worth is intangible. Scorpio turns the Taurus bull to look deeper into these issues and how they relate to our internal lives — the ultimate value and wealth that remains when all other physical things have been burned away, in Scorpionic fashion. But the bull is stubborn — no one wants to give an inch, or change their minds.

Stay safe during this super moon, as the nature of this intensity and passionate examination of worth might lead to violence and certainly, schisms between people who were formerly friends, if our ideals of worth and value turn out to create fractures which cannot be tolerated and build into conflict, in order to prove our worth, and that we deserve our place, our power, and to believe what we believe without being challenged for it.
